A letter from your therapist…

Dearest client,

I want you to know that I don’t have it all figured out. I don’t say that to compare our experiences, because they are all so different and personal in their own ways. I say it to humanize myself and our relationship. I do have an education and trainings that make me qualified to support you along your path, but I don’t have all the answers. The truth is, I don’t want to have all the answers. Imagine the pressure that would bring or the pedestal that would come with being all knowing? No thank you. I’m not sure anyone has it all figured out and that’s certainly something that brings me peace.

I won’t have all of the answers and I cannot fix you. If I thought I could fix you, that would mean I also think you are broken, and that is something I will never say. We are not broken, we are humans living in an incredibly messy world during an incredibly messy time and I trust we are doing the best we can. What I can offer is a safe place to land, a whole lot of empathy and tenderness, and continuous curiosity.

In the time we spend working together I hope trust is created and you feel safe to be yourself, above all else. I have no doubt there will be ups and downs to our journey together, as that seems to be the way life goes, but I’m on your team and that’s really all I can be.

with love,

Olivia
